What we are learning in the classroom:
Language Arts: Verbs-past, present, future, plural, and singular.
Guided Reading: In guided reading each group is working on their individual group strategy goals. Setting goals for ourselves helps us focus with intent on improving a skill. My second graders all have reading goals, and they are learning strategies in which to achieve them. We are busy learning the strategies that readers use to decode unfamiliar words, develop fluency, and build comprehension. I am sending home books to read that are not necessarily at a level of challenge for my students, rather they are texts in which to apply the reading strategies focused upon in guided reading groups. Be sure and ask your child about his/her current reading goal and what strategy he/she is practicing at home. I'm proud of my readers!
Math: Adding 4 two digit numbers. We will have a test on Tuesday and begin our coins unit on Wednesday :)!
Writing: We are working on writing journals. We can write 6+ complete sentences with complete beginning, middle and ending and adding more details and expression in our writing.
Science: We have finished out rolling and sliding portion of our balance and motion unit! Next we will be doing the sound and vibration portion of the unit!
Social Studies: Maps and learning about different celebrations through our tradition presentations!
