What we are learning in the classroom:
Language Arts: This week we will be working on our same list of words from our Words Their Way program and some groups will be getting a new list! I will assess the groups this week to check for mastery. This is a phonics based program to help students grow as readers and writers. We will sort them and write the words and word rules in our notebooks. This week students will get specific word lists differentiated to their level. I am excited to see the learning and progression of their spelling through this great resource!
Guided Reading: In guided reading each group is working on their individual group strategy goals. Setting goals for ourselves helps us focus with intent on improving a skill. Every student in our class has reading goals, and they are learning strategies in which to achieve them. We are busy learning the strategies that readers use to decode unfamiliar words, develop fluency, and build comprehension. I am sending home books to read that are not necessarily at a level of challenge for my students, rather they are texts in which to apply the reading strategies focused upon in guided reading groups. Be sure and ask your child about his/her current reading goal and what strategy he/she is practicing at home. I'm so proud of my readers and all their hard work every day when we come together!
Math: We will be working on our measurement unit and kicking it off with area tomorrow!
Writing: We will be working on creating stories in our writing journals. We can write 6+ complete sentences with complete beginning, middle and ending and adding more details and expression in our writing.
Science: We will continue our weather and air unit with the water cycle
